This time, it’s not a fragrance bottle or a couture compact. It’s a lipstick—encased in a precious pendant and worn on a chain like a fine jewel. Called Rouge Premier, the new piece is a collaboration between Victoire de Castellane of Dior Joaillerie and Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup. The result is both irreverent and exquisite: a fully refillable lipstick that doubles as a gemstone-studded necklace.
In the world of Dior, nature is never just a motif—it’s a language. Here, ladybirds, vines and floral flourishes animate the case of Rouge Premier, with compositions in diamonds, opals, turquoise, pink sapphires, rubies and lacquer. The overall effect evokes a miniature garden rendered in precious stones—part Toile de Jouy, part 21st-century talisman.
The sautoir design is not an afterthought. It’s deliberate. Worn long or styled short, the piece becomes an accessory in its own right—more than packaging, less than traditional jewellery, and somehow both at once.

Open the case and the tone shifts—subtlety gives way to performance. The lipstick itself contains hibiscus extract, jojoba oil, and 24-carat gold micro-particles for a luminous finish. Dior launched the line with 12 shades, including reinterpretations of its signature 999 red, soft terracottas and sheer nudes.
But unlike most limited collections, the colour here isn’t fleeting. The refillable format ensures the lipstick is more permanent than its category suggests. It’s beauty designed to endure.

Rouge Premier debuted during Haute Couture Week at Dior’s Avenue Montaigne salons, accompanied by pop-ups at Le Bon Marché and Dior Saint-Tropez. The launch echoed the brand’s high jewellery calendar—tight access, bespoke storytelling, and global interest from collectors as much as beauty insiders.
At time of writing, the pendant-lipstick is available only in limited editions, with allocations prioritised for couture and joaillerie clients. Wider release is anticipated—but not guaranteed.

We’ve seen jewellery mimic beauty. We’ve seen makeup dressed in metallics. But this? This is different.
Rouge Premier doesn’t borrow codes from fine jewellery—it’s made by the same hands. It’s a lipstick, yes—but one set with stones, cast in gold, lacquered, worn, refilled, and possibly handed down.
It’s a story we’ve watched across sectors: the merge of adornment and utility, of artistry and intimacy. And while Rouge Premier might not land in every handbag, it says something quietly powerful about where luxury is going—and what clients want it to mean.
