The Infinity Gauntlet was invented to make the impossible visible.
Within Marvel’s universe, it holds six stones capable of controlling time, space, reality, power, the mind and the soul. Together, they place unimaginable power into the hand of whoever possesses them.
East Continental Gems has translated that fiction into something altogether more tangible. Its one-of-one Infinity Gauntlet stands nearly 20 inches tall and carries six natural, untreated gemstones weighing more than 170 carats collectively.
It is a piece of Marvel mythology reconstructed through the language of fine gems.
The gauntlet will be offered by Julien’s Auctions on 8 December 2026 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi on Al Maryah Island, where it will headline the Pop Culture Legends Evening Sale.
It was previously offered for $25 million when unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, although its present auction estimate remains private.
The sale will test something more interesting than its earlier asking price. It will reveal how collectors value an object that belongs simultaneously to the worlds of jewellery, cinema, design and popular culture.
Each gemstone was chosen as a physical interpretation of one of Marvel’s Infinity Stones.
The Time Stone is represented by a Colombian emerald approaching 23 carats. The Space Stone becomes a Madagascan sapphire weighing more than 30 carats, while the Reality Stone is an oval-shaped natural ruby from Mozambique exceeding 15 carats.
An amethyst of more than 35 carats takes the role of the Power Stone. A cushion-shaped spessartite garnet, also exceeding 35 carats, represents the Soul Stone. Completing the group is a rectangular brilliant-cut yellow diamond of close to 35 carats, chosen for the Mind Stone.
Marvel’s original announcement described the collection as exceeding 150 carats when it was revealed in 2022. Current auction information places the combined weight above 170 carats, a figure consistent with the approximate individual weights disclosed for the six stones.
The scale mattered. These could not be small gems enlarged by clever staging. Each stone needed enough colour, character and presence to remain visually convincing within a gauntlet standing almost 20 inches tall.
A gemstone capable of anchoring a significant necklace was required for every position. Finding six examples with the necessary dimensions and visual authority therefore became part of the design process, rather than a final decorative consideration.
Julien’s Auctions says all six stones are untreated. Each has been examined and authenticated by American Gemological Laboratories, while the yellow diamond carries additional documentation from the Gemological Institute of America.
Christopher P. Smith, president and gemmologist at American Gemological Laboratories, personally oversaw their testing. He described his involvement as:
“One of the highlights of my gemmological career.”

Among the six stones, the emerald chosen to control time has the most compelling history of its own.
The stone was reportedly recovered more than a century ago and remained within the East Continental Gems collection for over 30 years. During that period, the company repeatedly declined opportunities to sell it.
Its eventual release for the Marvel project says something about the unusual nature of the commission.
A gemstone protected for decades was not saved for a conventional necklace, private client or red-carpet jewel. It was placed into a fictional artefact associated with one of the most recognisable stories in modern cinema.
That decision could easily be dismissed as spectacle, but doing so would overlook the role symbolism has always played within jewellery.
Gemstones have long represented authority, protection, faith, memory and identity. Kings placed them in crowns. Civilisations transformed them into talismans. Families passed them from one generation to the next as heirlooms.
The Infinity Gauntlet continues that tradition through a mythology created for the present.
Its emerald does not acquire the power to manipulate time, of course. What it gains is another layer of identity, one understood immediately by an audience far larger than the traditional gemstone market.

The project reportedly began in 2019 when Adam Mirzoeff, chief executive of East Continental Gems, noticed a toy Infinity Gauntlet on the desk of a senior Marvel executive.
He suggested creating a real version with genuine gemstones. The idea developed into a formal collaboration, and Marvel supplied access to the layered design files used to realise the gauntlet on screen.
This access proved critical. East Continental Gems was not producing a loose interpretation of a familiar shape. It was working with the design language behind one of cinema’s most recognisable objects.
The completed gauntlet was unveiled three years later at San Diego Comic-Con.
East Continental Gems brought more than half a century of jewellery experience to the project. Established as a family business in New York in 1972, the company has worked across gemstone sourcing, design, fine jewellery and estate pieces.
Its collaboration with Marvel represents another expression of that knowledge, placing natural gemstones within stories already recognised by a global audience.
The one-of-one gauntlet has since inspired a broader range of Marvel gemstone collectibles. Smaller limited editions and individual Infinity Stone releases have allowed the idea to reach more collectors, but the original remains separate through its scale, exceptional stones and singular status.

There is an important distinction within the gauntlet’s provenance.
It was not worn by an actor and did not appear in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame. It is an officially authorised, one-of-one recreation made using Marvel’s design material and created specifically to hold the six natural gemstones.
Its importance therefore does not come from physical contact with a film set.
Instead, it represents something relatively new within collectible luxury. It is an object created from the outset to unite fictional provenance with material rarity.
That distinction could make it more revealing than a screen-used prop. A prop begins with storytelling and later acquires market value through its connection to a film. This gauntlet began with the idea that storytelling itself could provide the framework for a serious gemstone commission.
Ken Citron, chief executive of Julien’s Auctions, captured its unusual position:
“The Infinity Gauntlet is part fine jewellery, part tribute to the most celebrated saga in modern cinema, part cultural touchstone.”
The object resists a single definition. It has gemstones substantial enough to interest serious collectors, official Marvel provenance, a unique design, gemmological documentation and an instantly recognisable narrative.
Its value cannot be calculated through carat weight alone.

The gauntlet arrives at a moment when the boundaries between jewellery, entertainment, art and collectible design are becoming increasingly porous.
Luxury clients no longer build collections exclusively around traditional categories. Watches sit beside sneakers, film memorabilia, handbags, contemporary art and rare cars. Emotional recognition can carry as much weight as age, technique or material.
For jewellers, this creates an opportunity. A gemstone can retain its geological identity while entering an entirely different cultural conversation. The jewel becomes a means of participating in a world the collector already loves.
The finest collaborations understand that distinction. They do not simply apply a familiar logo to an existing product and declare the result significant. They find a shared language between material and story.
The Infinity Stones provide that language almost perfectly. Gems were already central to Marvel’s narrative. East Continental Gems did not need to force jewellery into the story. It needed to decide what those fictional stones would become if they existed in our world.
A ruby, emerald or sapphire is familiar to any jewellery collector. Calling it the Reality Stone, Time Stone or Space Stone changes how it is encountered without altering what it is.
That ability to hold two identities at once is one of the project’s greatest strengths.

The successful bidder will receive full gemmological documentation for the six stones, the original fitted presentation case and a certificate of authenticity signed by Jim Starlin, creator of Marvel’s original Infinity Gauntlet comic storyline.
The signed certificate connects the object to the creative origin of the story. Marvel’s design files connect it to the cinematic interpretation. The gemstones provide a physical history measured in millions of years.
Those layers create a complex form of provenance.
The emerald existed long before Marvel. The fictional Time Stone existed long before this commission. The gauntlet brings those two histories together and asks the collector to value them as one.
Prospective buyers must receive approval from Julien’s before bidding. Approved participants can bid in person, by telephone or through an absentee bid. Before reaching Abu Dhabi, the piece is expected to tour Bahrain during November.
The December sale will mark the first time the one-of-one creation has changed hands.
Its final price will provide an indication of whether the market views it primarily as a gemstone object, an official Marvel collectible or a new form of culturally driven luxury.

The earlier $25 million figure provides a powerful headline, but it should not be confused with a confirmed auction estimate or an expected result.
Julien’s has chosen to make the current estimate available privately to prospective bidders. Participation will require pre-approval, suggesting that the auction house expects a small and closely qualified group of international collectors.
The eventual result will carry significance beyond the sale itself.
A strong price could demonstrate that official entertainment collaborations are capable of creating their own category of high-value collectible, particularly when intellectual property is supported by rare materials, recognised craftsmanship and genuine scarcity.
A more restrained result would raise a different question: how much of the original $25 million proposition belonged to the gemstones, and how much depended upon the cultural power of Marvel?
Either outcome will tell us something about the direction in which luxury collecting is moving.
The most interesting figure attached to the Infinity Gauntlet is not $25 million. Nor is it 170 carats.
Its real significance lies in the way six natural gemstones have been given an additional form of provenance.
Their geological rarity remains fundamental. The emerald is still an exceptional Colombian emerald, the sapphire remains a substantial Madagascan sapphire and the yellow diamond retains its own gemmological identity.
Yet within this object, each stone enters a story recognised by millions of people.
The emerald now represents control over time. The sapphire holds space. The ruby can reshape reality.
Those powers may be fictional, but the emotional response they produce is real. For a new generation of collectors, that response may be as important as traditional ideas of rarity and heritage.
Fine jewellery has always found ways to make belief tangible. The Infinity Gauntlet simply chooses the mythology of the present.
