Founder of The Jewels Club, Andrew creates platforms that connect the world of jewellery through community, content and access.
With roots in fine jewellery’s elite workshops and a bold creative streak that defies convention, Darren Sherwood is a maker who bridges two worlds: the precision and discipline of traditional goldsmithing, and the freedom and innovation of digital design.
Working under both the Sherwood Jewellery and Mr Sherwood names, he presents different facets of the same practice — one focused on bespoke commissions and community connection, the other exploring sculpture, storytelling and digital craft. Together, they reflect a studio that is as technically skilled as it is creatively fearless.
You’ll find Darren Sherwood at the bench in Purley, just south of London — but his story stretches far beyond. With decades of experience and a career shaped by some of Mayfair’s finest workshops, Darren now leads two interwoven ventures: Mr Sherwood, a space for artistic experimentation and digital craft, and Sherwood Jewellery, the welcoming, family-run studio known for its personal service and precision-led bespoke work. One pushes boundaries, the other brings high-level making to a local audience — and together, they reflect the full breadth of his skill.
Darren Sherwood works from a single studio in Purley, just south of London — but his story stretches far beyond. With decades of experience and a career shaped by some of Mayfair’s finest workshops, he now operates under two digital identities: Mr Sherwood, a platform for artistic experimentation and digital sculpture, and Sherwood Jewellery, the side of the practice focused on bespoke commissions, heirloom remodelling and family-first client service.
Together, they reflect two sides of the same maker: one pushing the boundaries of design, the other rooted in craft and connection.
At the bench in Purley: Darren Sherwood mid-process, where precision meets quiet focus and every detail matters
Darren’s early career was shaped in Mayfair, where he trained and worked as a diamond mounter on high-value pieces for leading houses including Cartier, Graff, Boodles, Mikimoto and Fabergé. These formative years were spent mastering the fundamentals — precise setting, clean lines, and the kind of workshop discipline demanded by the finest jewellery brands.
The experience gave him more than just technique. Working on some of the most technically demanding jewellery in the trade instilled an appreciation for restraint, detail, and clarity of form — lessons that continue to inform his own designs today.
Whether crafting a Gage-style ring entirely by hand or building a sculpture in ZBrush, Darren’s work reflects a commitment to precision and an instinct for composition — values rooted in that early workshop training.
Darren Sherwood at the work bench
Darren’s work sits comfortably between past and future. Trained in traditional goldsmithing but fluent in Computer Aided Design using tools such as Gemvision's Matrix, and Zbrush, he moves with ease between hand-fabricated forms and sculptural, screen-led designs. That dual skill set allows him to tackle a wide spectrum of ideas — from diamond-set cuffs and Fabergé-style lockets to lifelike 3D-printed pets and anatomical studies.
His portfolio spans scale, material and mood. Some designs carry the symmetry and weight of architectural objects; others, like the sculpted frog lapel pin Rowley, show his flair for humour and narrative.
What links them is not a fixed aesthetic, but a consistent attention to detail — and a clear respect for both the process and the idea behind it.
Rather than choosing between heritage or innovation, Darren uses both as tools — not constraints — shaping each piece according to the story it’s meant to tell.
Below, you’ll find a curated showcase of Darren Sherwood’s designs — each one reflecting his ability to merge precision with personality. From richly coloured tourmalines and sculpted lapel pins to classically set citrines and playful one-offs, these pieces highlight the breadth of his craft and the stories behind each commission.

Darren was officially called to Livery at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in 2025 — a proud moment, and a significant marker in a journey that began more than 25 years ago at the bench. From his earliest days learning the foundations of traditional goldsmithing, to exhibiting at major industry fairs and mentoring the next generation of makers, the invitation to join the Livery wasn’t just recognition — it was a full-circle moment in a career built on skill, community, and quiet determination.
“It’s an incredible honour to be accepted as part of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ Livery,” says Darren. “What a fantastic journey I’ve had up to this point in the trade — the friends I’ve made, and the astonishingly talented individuals I get to surround myself with on a daily basis.”

The Goldsmiths’ Company has played a quiet but vital role in Darren’s journey from the very beginning — offering access, encouragement and a deeper understanding of the trade at a time when he was still discovering what a career in jewellery could look like. Over the years, its support has remained a constant presence, shaping not just his technical path, but his connection to the wider craft community.
“They — and certain individuals within it — have been a great support to me since started back in 1998, never even knowing there was something like the jewellery trade.”
Now, standing among peers he once looked up to, Darren is focused on giving back.
“If you’re in the trade, or thinking of getting into it, check out @thegoldsmithscompany or @gsmithscentre. See how you can get involved. Become a Freeman of the Company. Help pass on the knowledge.”
It’s a powerful reminder that while skill opens doors, it’s community — and the people who offer support, share knowledge, and believe in your potential — that shape the journey in lasting ways. For Darren, the relationships built along the way have been just as important as the work itself.
Darren Sherwood officially joins the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ Livery, marking a major milestone in his jewellery journey.
A proud moment for Darren as he’s robed at Goldsmiths’ Hall—welcomed into a tradition dating back more than 700 years.
Launched in 2020, Sherwood Jewellery brings a new kind of independent jeweller to Purley — combining a welcoming retail space upstairs with a fully equipped workshop below. It’s a setup that allows for something rare: high-level craftsmanship and customer connection, all under one roof.
Clients can walk in, explore finished pieces, discuss bespoke ideas, and know that the same maker behind the bench is the one guiding them through the process. From the first sketch to the final polish, everything happens on site — with the same attention to detail whether the job is a full redesign or a simple repair.
The space reflects Darren’s approach to the trade: accessible, precise, and proudly independent. With a calm and considered atmosphere upstairs, and a focused hum of making downstairs, Sherwood Jewellery offers a refreshingly open view of how great jewellery is made.
Darren Sherwood is more than a skilled maker — he’s a trusted figure within the jewellery community. He holds the Freedom of the City of London, is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths — credentials that reflect both technical excellence and a commitment to the profession.
He regularly exhibits at key industry events including Goldsmiths’ Fair and Goldsmiths North, where his work is recognised for its craftsmanship, originality and cross-disciplinary approach. Darren also sits on the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s Community Advisory Group — contributing to the conversation around training, access, and the future of the trade.
An advocate for education and transparency, Darren is known for championing digital tools alongside traditional skills, and for sharing his knowledge generously — from apprentices at the bench to fellow professionals exploring new ways of working.
It’s a rare balance: a craftsman deeply rooted in heritage, yet always thinking about what’s next.
His craftsmanship – exacting, thoughtful, and never rushed
His versatility – whether hand-carving or digitally sculpting, the work is always striking
His openness – inviting clients and students into the creative process
His heart – Sherwood Jewellery is a family-run space with soul
Darren Sherwood is exactly the kind of maker we champion at The Jewels Club — someone who’s not just excellent at what he does, but open about how he does it. His work proves that high craft doesn’t have to mean closed doors. It can be transparent, modern, and still deeply rooted in heritage.
He’s a builder — of pieces, of knowledge, of community. Whether it’s reimagining what a lapel pin can be, inviting a client behind the scenes, or helping shape industry conversations, Darren shows up with integrity and intent.
He’s also a good friend to our founder Andrew — both proud South Londoners, with studios and lives rooted in the same part of the city. That shared spirit of independence, curiosity and community runs through everything The Jewels Club stands for.
In a trade where many hide the process, Darren shares it. In a world that can feel crowded with noise, his work speaks quietly — but with absolute clarity.
He doesn’t just represent what jewellery is — he represents what it can be. And that’s why we’re proud to have him as part of The Jewels Club story. South London and proud.
