A maverick in a world that often plays it safe, Theo Fennell has always done things differently. With his white mane of hair, irreverent wit and unmistakable creative voice, he’s long been one of British jewellery’s most compelling figures — an artist, a craftsman, and a born storyteller.
Jeweller, writer, rebel — Theo Fennell’s designs are as bold and unconventional as the man himself.
Designer - Theo Fennell
After a classical education at Eton and studies at York College of Art and the Byam Shaw School of Art, Fennell began his professional journey as an apprentice silversmith in Hatton Garden. But it wasn’t long before he set out on his own. In 1982, he opened his first shop on London’s Fulham Road — a space that would become a landmark for bold, imaginative design and glittering rock’n’roll glamour.

His jewellery walks the line between gothic and classical, refined and provocative. Think skull rings, miniature secret doors, bees in gold, and crosses made to shock as much as delight. “It’s not about fashion,” he once said. “It’s about ideas.” Each piece tells a story — often tongue-in-cheek, always meticulously made.
Fennell’s fans read like a who’s who of British culture: Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, Madonna, Lady Gaga. But he has never designed for the red carpet alone. His work is made to be worn, admired, and passed on — not just shown off.
Despite a brief and turbulent period away from the business, Fennell returned in 2021, buying back control of his brand. His move to Chelsea Barracks in 2022 marked a new chapter — one that continues his commitment to British craftsmanship and design integrity.

Away from the bench, Fennell is also a published writer. His 2022 memoir, I Fear for This Boy, offered a candid look into his upbringing, artistic path, and the creative chaos that fuels his work. He’s also the father of Emerald Fennell, the Oscar-winning director of Promising Young Woman, and fashion designer Coco Fennell — creativity clearly runs in the family.
Theo Fennell’s world is one where nothing is ordinary, and every piece has something to say. In an industry often driven by trends, he’s remained joyfully original — and we’re all the better for it.
